WHAT IS GRID CASTINGS?
The Grid Casting is the first point of contact for the hot steel on a Long-product Cooling Bed. The function of a Grid Casting is to provide proper support for the hot product, and control it’s cooling to ensure the product meets or exceeds the straightness tolerances as specified under MBQ or SBQ standards. The length of the Step Plates/Grid Casting are engineered to remove the heat from the steel at a specific controlled rate prior to entering the cooling bed rakes.
Grid Castings are also known as Step Plates, Step Castings, Straightening Grids, Notch Castings and Heat-Sink Castings.

This wear plate technology increase the longevity of your Grid Castings while drastically reducing your maintenance time. Wear Plates provide extended life for your Grid Castings. GMB’s Grid Castings are also designed with in-depth engineering studies to cool the product evenly, ensuring high quality straight product for your steel mill.

Our Step Castings are made with OEM or better quality of materials to increase their service life. To ensure North-American quality standard, we have a comprehensive quality control system at our facility which includes steel mill engineers who have more than 20 to 30 years of experience. We inspect and approve our equipment/ spare parts prior to shipment to our customer.
STAINLESS STEEL GRID CASTINGS
For high demanding areas where product sample cuts are often taken, GMB offers Stainless Steel Step Plates. They are designed to handle the abuse typically associated with cutting samples with an oxy fuel torch. They offer far superior part life when subjected to sample cutting compared to conventional grey cast iron Grids castings.
GMB offers 2 types of Stainless Steel Step Plates:
1- The first which is entirely made of Stainless steel
2- second which incorporates a stainless steel insert for the cutting area in a cast Grid
